Our milestones

1919

The beginning of a sweet legacy

Confiserie Van Oeyen opens its doors and lays the foundation for a century of artisan sweets. The beloved recipes of that time are still part of the assortment today.

1939

The red hammer conquers hearts

On the eve of the war, the very first red hammer lollipop was made. The colorful candy brought light and fun to dark times and grew into a timeless classic that continues to charm young and old today. It was not until 1954 that the first machine was built to automate the production process, without sacrificing the authentic taste.

1950

Haricots make Brussels history

Brussels-based Chocolatier Demaret introduces soft vanilla haricots coated in dark chocolate. Under the name RiRi, they became a household name, complete with popular collector's books full of sticky notes. Today, the haricots remain a beloved treat within the Candyville assortment.

1984

A dad and his chocolate dream

Following the birth of second his daughter, Guy De Vil invents the concept of Papa Chocolat. With pen and paper, he lays the foundations and draws the first designs that would later grow into an iconic brand.

2010

Classics get a new home

Guy De Vil takes the first big step in the Candyville story. From then on, the authentic recipes of such classics as the Red Hammer and Haricots come into his hands, forming the foundation for what would later become The Candyville Company.

2011

Two brands, one vision

In this year, two flavorful brands are officially filed. 'Candyville' immediately gets its colorful interpretation with original, playful candy classics. 'Papa Chocolat' remains a cherished dream for now, but is already established as an ambitious brand for the future.

2012

Candyville debuts at ISM in Cologne

In 2012, The Candyville Company first participated in ISM in Cologne, the largest international trade fair for confectionery and snacks. There, founder Guy De Vil stood with a first, modest selection of sweets that formed the basis for what Candyville is today. This step marked the beginning of our international ambitions and gave us the opportunity to show our Belgian creations to a worldwide audience.

2015

Guy & his first grandson

The story of My First Sweets germinated when Guy created the birth candy for his grandson William - from design to packaging, paying attention to every detail.

2016

The Candyville Company gets its name

Guy De Vil pools his brands and gives the adventure an official name: The Candyville Company. A new chapter full of ambition, taste and creativity is thus born.

2018

Nostalgia in candy form: My First Sweets

A new brand sees the light of day: My First Sweets. With soft colors, vintage appeal and playful candies, it brings a touch of nostalgia and sweet fun to every generation.

2019

A family story takes shape

Daughter Julie De Vil joins the company and helps make her father's longstanding dream come true. Under the name Papa Chocolat, the first sugar beans roll off the assembly line - a new symbol of tradition and refinement.

2024

Five years of Papa Chocolat celebrated

Papa Chocolat's fifth anniversary will be celebrated with a major event. A festive moment where tradition, elegance and taste come together and the brand confirms its place as a premium icon in the confectionery world.

2025

Worldwide award-winning flavor

The Candyville Company is the recipient of two prestigious Superior Taste Awards. An international recognition confirming the exceptional quality, refined flavors and artisanal passion of our products.
